Product care information
Everything I forge is made from solid steel and should therefore be robust enough to last a lifetime. However like all metal objects they can eventually rust and are therefore supplied with a coating of wax and linseed oil to resist moisture and provide a hardwearing and decorative finish.
The wax coating can be reapplied to keep your metal work looking like new. There are many different protective products available but I use Renaissance wax, a high-grade micro crystalline wax available from many online stores.
If the product has grown rusty from prolonged exposure to the elements, then you can simply scrub off the rust with a wire brush or use a variety of rust removing processes, and then reapply the oil and wax finish.
I apply an oil finish in a very similar method to re-seasoning a cast iron/metal pan/skillet. The metal needs to be heated and oil brushed on at just shy of a smoking heat.
Please note that the finish is not food safe, if you wish to use the toasting fork the wax and oil should be removed. A good way to do this is to heat the tips until it burns off and then apply a food safe oil such as olive or vegetable.
Please be careful when doing this as obviously there is the potential to burn yourself.
