Snake fire poker.
I start off by forging a solid bar into the rough shape I need, then all of the facial details are hammered, punched and chiselled in.
Then I start working on the scales, putting each one of them in by hand and finally heating and forming everything into the shape I need.
Approximately 70 cm / 27.5 inch long.
This is a really heavy duty solid steel fire poker that will last for generations and stand up to incredibly heavy use and very high temperatures.
Each product is finished with a traditional mix of linseed oil and beeswax. Applied hot it burns on to the surface giving a slightly darker finish to the metal without obscuring any of the hammer marks like modern paints or finishes would.
The fire poker is shown here with the barb/hook end but others are available if you would prefer. (brush, point,shovel, toasting fork etc)
Because of the nature of my work and the materials used there will be slight variations between products as no two are ever completely the same.
The Items I sell are all forged to order, please contact me if you need one for a specific date and I can usually move things around to get it to you in time.

I forge in a small smithy in the heart of the English countryside, working with equipment and techniques that are hundreds of years old. I take inspiration from the natural world and enjoy producing highly detailed, textured work which often also has a function. Each piece is wrought from solid steel and hammered out with no mechanical shortcuts or modern tooling.
